Spring at last

Riley at his first competition

Thursday 3rd February, 2011

At last we are starting to see the end of winter and the sight of spring.

The horses have been having lot's of fun either on holiday or out hunting. Primative Rose has definitely enjoyed the hunting, taking on every hedge in sight! Byran, a 5 year old I have in to sell, has also been loving the hunting, jumping everything we have come across.

Now the serious work has started with all the horses regularly going out SJ (show jumping) or DR (dressage). High Jinx is looking stunning after her holiday and is happy to be back in full work going to lots of parties we are all very excited about her plans for next year.

Riley, a 6 year old by Harliquin, that I bought over from Ireland at the end of last year is showing much promise for eventing next year. Having been a super star at his first prelim.

I have also gained the ride on Primative Ray an intermediate horse owned by Christine Watts which we are all very excited about and can't wait to get her out competing.

We are all very sad to see Jo Bates leave us at the end of January but wish her the best of luck at her new yard. Jo and Holly (Jo's daughter) will be missed after many years at Clattercote but sure we will all stay in touch for a long time to come yet.

We have also taken on a head Groom, Jane. She is proving very calm and good with the horses that have all taken to her and is making me much more relaxed about life as I know everything will be done how I want!

Clattercote 2010

Sovereign looking very cute and loves having his picture taken!

Wednesday 27th October, 2010

This year Clattercote stables has had much success in both competition, livery and breeding.

Our latest foal Sovereign is now out with lots of other horses and is loving making new friends and is quite happy to wander off leaving his poor mum Penny wondering where on earth he has gone. He is now best friends with last years foal tuppence both of them are very friendly and come over and demand to be fussed as soon as you arrive at their field! Nikki a 5 yr old mare who is also out in the field is now expecting her first foal by wish upon a star which we are all very excited about meeting.

On the livery side we are all very excited to welcome Flora Harris to the yard. She has based herself here whilst her yard in Cropredy is being built. Flora has fitted in with everybody at the yard and is always willing to help when ever she can she is fun to have about making for a very happy yard.

A trip to Ireland

Pip at Clattercote

Tuesday 17 August, 2010

Last week me and Kate Hall, who is based at Clattercote stables, went to Ireland looking at potential horses to bring back. Luckily we were blessed with lot's of nice weather as we were informed it was raining at home much to Dad's disapproval as this brought a halt to combining.

We saw lot's of promising young horses so hopefully we will soon have one or two new additions to the yard.

Primative Rose is now feeling much better so will be back competing again soon. High Jinx is taking it easy till the end of the month as she has had a hard season so far, although I'm not sure she is appreciating the holiday!

Life at Clattercote

Sovereign, Penny's new colt foal

Monday 8th August, 2010

Penny, my brood mare, gave birth to a lovely colt foal witch we have name Sovereign 2 weeks ago and is proving what a lovely mummy she is proudly watching over him whilst he is either sleeping or galloping flat out round the field. I think he might be a handful when he's older!

We have another new addition to the yard as well Tillie a little puppy owned by Holly who is based on the yard with her Mum Jo Bates. Tillie has all ready made good friends with Molly so I'm sure they will be up to all sorts of mischief in the future.

I'd also like to say well done to Jo Bates as she has been doing so well this year having qualified her young horse bronze star for the RHIS and Hoys.

The farm is also a hive of activity now as harvest is rapidly coming upon us so lets hope this fantastic weather stays with us to make for a less stressful harvest.

Snow at the yard

Snow at Clattercote Stables

23rd December, 2009

Although the recent weather has slowed down things on the yard our spirits have been kept high and we've been busy with much grooming, clipping and trimming taking place. The horses look stunning with the frozen ground helping to keep those muddy legs at bay!

New Cross Country Steps

Friday 30th October, 2009

We are very excited that our cross country steps have now been built. The horses watched with interest as the tractors brought all the materials and top soil past their paddocks. The steps will be ready for use in our training programme once the weather begins to dry out a little.

Our next project is underway for a ditch jump to be made.
